I've been selling regularly on Facebook and Kijiji for the past couple of years and have learned that what items sell and a general sense of pricing.

Items sell best when they are in good condition, have a brand name and practical use. It also helps to get a higher price if you have the original packaging, especially for collectibles, electronics and appliances.

Here is a list of popular items that will generally sell well.

  • Small Household Appliances - Kitchen and other appliances, branded cookware, everything from kettles to coffee makers to fans

  • Home Decor - Branded decorative pieces, vases, lamps or paintings by artists

  • Garden & Outdoors - Garden decor and tools such as planters, lawnmowers & grass trimmers

  • Sporting Goods - Exercise equipment, bicycles, golf clubs, ski equipment, skates (in season)

  • Camping Gear - Tents, stoves, coolers, sleeping bags (in season)

  • Brand Name Clothing, Footwear & Bags - Casual styles that are mid to high end brands.

  • Vintage Items - Vinyl, some china and crystal, cameras, clothing, toys, furnishings and home decor will sell well depending on condition. Vintage toys such as games, dolls, puzzles and lego are always in demand and fetch reasonable prices.

Hello, I'm Sharon

Always happy to help!

I started selling the majority of my belongings on Facebook Marketplace a couple of years ago when I moved from Toronto to Collingwood. That eventually led into friends asking me to sell their stuff because they were downsizing or needed cash. I've been helping people with this process ever since!

I feel good about selling second hand goods because it promotes a culture of reusing, keeps things out of the landfills and gets things into the hands of those who want them at an affordable price. This is a step in the right direction towards a greener planet.

To further promote sustainable living, myself and some local small business owners give back by organizing clothing/houseware swap exchanges within the community.

What exactly is included in the service you are providing?

What I offer is a hassle-free selling experience for my clients. For the most part I pickup your items or you can drop off. I will inspect, measure, photograph, research, price, inventory and list each individual item or group of items. I spend a good part of my day posting items, responding to buyers, and setting up pickup times. I also offer buyers a convenient drop off service for a small fee to cover my gas expense. For buyers outside the local area, I will provide shipping quotes, and package/ship items at buyer's expense. I keep track of sold items and update inventory lists. At beginning of each month I will calculate your payout amount, etransfer funds and provide you with an updated itemized report list that shows the status of items sold and items outstanding.

What is the "Load & Go" Service?

Once you contact me, I will phone or email you to discuss items you want to sell. You can send me pictures of your items or I can check out your items at time of pickup and we will decide what items are sellable. For pickup, your items should be packed and ready for me to quickly load in my vehicle. I ask to have items in garage, front porch/entrance of house/business or driveway. Please use small/medium boxes for packing items and each box should weigh less than 40 pounds. I recommend no more than 30 items to pickup at a time. If you have more than 30 items we can arrange repeat pickups as required. Also include any manual instructions, warranty cards, certificates or receipts if you have on-hand. I offer complimentary pickups in my local area of Collingwood. Fees may apply for pickups outside my local area depending on distance travelled and volume/quality of items to sell.

What does it cost for Sell My Used Stuff to sell my items?

There are no fees to list your items. My commission is based on the successful sale of items.

When do I get paid for my items that sell?

You will receive your payout for sales from the past month within the first 5 days of the new month. Payout is sent by etransfer or cash pickup.

What items I can't sell?

I am unable to sell:

  • Items that would list for less than $10

  • Items in poor condition: Soiled, dirty, broken, ripped, bad smells, moldy

  • Items needing upholstery, cleaning, refinishing or repair

  • Most books (unless its a popular collection by author)

  • CD's or DVDs (exception yes to video games)

  • Fakes or replicas, counterfeit, stolen, illegal or dangerous goods

How long will you keep my items?

The selling period begins on the date your items are listed. I keep items for three months and I relist them a few times during that period.

What about pricing of my items?

If you have a price in mind for an item I will start there. Otherwise I will research what similar items are selling for and use that as a starting point. Keep in mind that some buyers will try to negotiate the price. Sell My Used Stuff will do its best to get list price or best price for you, however sometimes a price may need to be adjusted to reflect current market conditions.

Do you provide me with an itemized report list?

I will send you an excel spreadsheet listing your items for sale, with the list price. You can review and either approve the pricing or make adjustments. I use the spreadsheet to keep track of your inventory and payout information.

Where can I see and review my listings?

99% of the time I will list your items on Facebook Marketplace. I may list some items on Kijiji when there is minimal activity on FB Marketplace. You can check out my FB page to view listings in Marketplace.

What about bigger items and furniture?

I just have myself and my SUV to pick up things. If you have large items then we can discuss other options. Also I can assist with selling large items/furniture as part of an estate or moving sale. Contact me to discuss further.

I need some help with the actual decluttering, organizing, cleaning or getting ready for a move. Can you help?

What happens to my items if they don't sell?

For items that don't sell, I will get in touch and give you the option to either have items donated or pick them up within 5 days. Items to be donated or items not picked up will be brought to either local charity organizations, thrift stores, clothing/household swaps or other organizations/businesses of our choice.

Tell me more about local clothing/houseware swaps you help organize?

Sell My Used Stuff along with other small local business owners organize clothing/houseware swap events in our community. A swap is a type of meeting wherein participants exchange their valued but no longer used items for items they will use. Clothing/houseware swaps are considered not only a good way to refill one's wardrobe or obtain needed housewares, but also are considered an act of environmentalism in order to promote sustainable consumption. Swaps allow for items for example like clothing that would be discarded into the trash to recycle into someone else's closet. Fashion is one of the globes leading waste contributors and swap exchanges help greatly in order to reduce this waste. How do I get started to sell my stuff?

Complete the contact form and provide as many details as possible about the items you would like to sell. I will get back to you within 1-2 days to discuss further and make arrangements for pickup or drop off. Please carefully read the Terms & Conditions Agreement prior to getting in contact with me as many of your questions may already be answered.

Terms & Conditions Agreement

If you agree and appoint Sell My Used Stuff to sell your items verbally or in writing, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms & Conditions. Please read them carefully.

1. The client must be the owner or have the authority to sell or donate items given to Sell My Used Stuff to sell or donate.

2. Items must be in good to excellent condition and not broken or damaged. All clothes must be clean and in ready-to-wear condition.

3. All items must be genuine, no fakes or replicas.

4. Items to be picked up must be ready to Load & Go at front door or garage of home, condo or business. I do not enter client premises for pickups.

5. Items to be packed in small to medium size boxes and each box should weigh 40 pounds or less. Clothing can be bagged or boxed. For items like furniture or heavy appliances over 40 pounds, Sell My Used Stuff requests client to assist with lifting when picking up items.

6. Commission percentages are based per item and may fluctuate depending on time and effort required to research, list and/or find a buyer.

7. If an item is returned by a buyer due to unsatisfactory condition or other reason then Sell My Used Stuff will refund buyer and deduct payout amount from client to cover refund. Returned items can be picked up by client within 5 days otherwise Sell My Used Stuff will discard.

8. If an item does not sell within a couple of weeks then Sell My Used Stuff has the authority to start reducing the price unless otherwise agreed upon prior to listing item.

9. After 3 month period, client will be notified of unsold items and is responsible for pickup of unsold items within 5 days of notification. After the fifth day Sell My Used Stuff will either donate or discard items.
